Academic Advising Center

Who is my Academic Advisor?

Your Academic Advisor is a faculty member in your major.  Students who have not yet declared a a major are advised by a Freshman Advisor up until the end of their sophomore year.  Your advisor is there to help guide you in the selection of courses to meet your degree requirements.  You should meet with your advisor at least once every semester prior to registration.

If you have forgotten your advisor’s name, you can find out by accessing your CNU Live/Student Services/Student Records/General Student Information page.

How do I contact my Advisor?

Most faculty advisors have office hours posted on their doors.  With the exception of during registration advising, you may also be able to call or email your advisor for an appointment.  To find the contact information for your advisor, you can search here by name.  You may also call the department secretary in your declared field of study.  If you can not find your advisor through these avenues, please call the Academic Advising Center at (757) 594-8763 for assistance.

How do I change Advisors?

Once you have been assigned a faculty advisor in your field of study, you must contact your academic department to request a new advisor.  Students changing majors will be assigned a new advisor in their new major.
